What happens when you open this page

When you open this page, your browser sends technical data to the server that hosts it. The hosting provider stores this in server log files:

• your IP address
• the date and time of the request
• the address requested and the amount of data transferred
• browser, version and operating system
• the page you came from

This data is needed to deliver the page at all, and it helps with faults and attacks. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in secure operation, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. I do not analyze these logs and do not combine them with other data.

Hosting with Cloudflare

This site is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. Cloudflare delivers the site through a worldwide network of servers. Your request is answered by whichever location is closest to you, which may be a server outside the European Union.

The connection data listed above may therefore be processed in the United States. This is based on a data processing agreement with Cloudflare that includes the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in operating the site securely and quickly, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

How long Cloudflare keeps this connection data, and how it processes it, is set out in its own privacy policy: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

No cookies, no analytics

This site stores nothing on your device. There are no cookies, no traffic measurement, no ad networks and no social media buttons that send data in the background.

Fonts

The typefaces DM Sans and Manrope are hosted on the same server as the site. Opening the page therefore creates no connection to Google or any other provider.

Outbound links

The site links to LinkedIn and to the University of Bonn. A connection to them is only made once you click such a link. From that point on, those providers' privacy notices apply.

Contact by email

If you write to me, I process your message and your sender address in order to reply. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR. I do not pass this data on and delete it once it is no longer needed.

Your rights

You have the right to information about the data stored about you, and to have it corrected, deleted or its processing restricted. You can also object to the processing and receive your data in a common format. An email to the address above is enough.

If you believe something is wrong with the processing, you can complain to a data protection supervisory authority. In North Rhine-Westphalia this is the Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit NRW.
