WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR

An internship on a tech or start-up team. Available right away, length open to discussion.

I want to analyze data, help build a product and talk to customers. I am especially interested in climate, energy and space tech. I enjoy learning a new field and taking responsibility.

PYTHONCO₂ MEASUREMENTSBACHELOR'S THESIS

Finding ship exhaust in
CO₂ measurement data.

Collage from my bachelor's thesis: the Ecological Rhine Station, a ship on the Rhine, me at the measuring station and the instruments
Impressions from my bachelor's thesis at the Ecological Rhine Station in Cologne.

At the Ecological Rhine Station in Cologne, wind and CO₂ concentration are measured 20 times per second. Ships passing by can distort that signal with their exhaust.

For my bachelor's thesis I built a complete analysis pipeline in Python and developed a detection algorithm. It finds exhaust plumes in the concentration signal. To validate it, I used AIS ship position data.

RESULT

In the campaign I studied, the exhaust influence flips the sign of the mean CO₂ flux: apparent release turns into apparent uptake.

See the result and the analysis

The series covers 51 winter days. After a strict wind direction filter, 19 usable half-hour blocks were left. I removed the segments flagged as exhaust and recalculated the affected fluxes.

WITH SHIP EXHAUST−0.38Apparent CO₂ uptake
WITHOUT FLAGGED SEGMENTS+0.60Apparent CO₂ release

Campaign means in µmol m⁻² s⁻¹. The sample is small, so this says nothing general about the CO₂ balance of the Rhine.

ORGANIZATIONBRAND BUILDINGCUSTOMER CONTACT

What I learned
doing it.

As a Red Bull Student Marketeer I work on events and campaigns alongside my studies. The job is planning, agreements and a lot of direct contact with people.

What it mostly comes down to:

  • Organizing eventsPreparing it and getting it done on site, even when the day goes differently than expected.
  • Working in a teamKeeping to what was agreed, owning my part of it and stepping in when something stalls elsewhere.
  • Approaching peopleTalking to strangers, explaining a brand and listening to what people actually want.
  • Selling and negotiatingFirst experience from conversations with bars and restaurants.

Skills &
how I use them.

From my studies, my job and my own experiments

STUDIES & BACHELOR'S THESIS

Python & data analysis

Preparing measurement data, automating the analysis and visualizing results. I built a complete Python pipeline for my bachelor's thesis.

FOUNDATIONS FROM MY STUDIES

Statistics & measurement methods

Statistical analysis, error analysis and reading measurement data critically. That includes judging how far a result carries and where it stops.

FOUNDATIONS FROM MY STUDIES

Mathematics & modeling

Analyzing physical relationships and describing them with models. Foundations in calculus, linear algebra and statistical and numerical methods.

STUDIES & BACHELOR'S THESIS

Scientific work

Working through a question step by step, documenting results and writing them up so that others can follow.

05 / PERSONAL

Interests and how I work

What I am
interested in.

01

Judo and stamina

I hold a black belt in judo. What I start, I want to finish. When a subject grabs me, I go deep into it.

02

Travel and cultures

I have visited 36 countries, some of them more than once. I like getting to know other cultures and understanding how people live and work in different countries.

03

Economies, markets and technology

I follow emerging markets, the differences between countries and what new technologies open up economically. I find it especially interesting how start-ups build products for different markets. That is why I took business modules at university that were not part of my degree.

04

Drones and AI

I enjoy working with camera drones, drone technology in general and the practical use of new AI tools.
